In 1882, Étienne-Jules Marey developed a chronophotographic gun,
capable of snapping 12 consecutive frames a second, recording all the
frames on the same picture. He utilised the chronophotographic gun for
the observation of animals and human locomotion.

Several feature films have been filmed on Super 8 mm and the majority
that have contemporary dispersion today were edited on video. Such films
count among them Colony, Brand Upon the Brain!, Things, and Curse of
Negative stocks, on the other hand, must be conveyed to video in order
to be watched and edited correctly. Unlike 16mm and larger formats,
the susceptibility to make a film-based work print does not subsist
for Super-8 in the US, as it would not be economical.
The German company Andec Filmtechnik provides a printing service for
Super-8 negative in Germany, but it is uncharted how much longer it
will keep doing this, due to the fairly little actual use of it. Furthermore,
projecting the processed film would create a negative image, and would
also impair the film itself.
