DIY Editing

DIY Editing of Your Home Movie Conversion - Take Complete Control!
Due to the huge increase in customers looking to take greater control over their material, we are often asked for an additional edit friendly version, via video to avi or video to quicktime transfers. To assist those customers aiming to go down this road, we have produced a free guide to editing which our customers have found both useful and time saving!

In most cases, people are keen to perform simple tasks such as the re-ordering of their material and the removal of unwanted elements. If you request an edit friendly version to be supplied, you'll be able to perform these tasks, and many more besides, once you've enjoyed the benefits of our telecine services.

History of Film

The earliest VCRs utilised an incandescent bulb as the light source, which often broke and made the VCR wrongly believe that a cassette were inside when not, or would detect the blown bulb and stop working entirely. Subsequent designs utilisse an infrared LED with a longer lifetime.

The recording device is a 12.7 mm wide magnetic tape wound over two reels, letting it be slowly passed over the various playback and recording tops of the video cassette recorder. The tape velocity for the "Standard Play" function (see below) is 3.335 cm/s for NTSC, 2.339 cm/s for PAL.

Like with nearly all cassette-based videotape devices, VHS machines drag the tape from the cassette case and wrap it around the tilted head drum which spins at 1800 rpm in NTSC machines and at 1500 rpm for PAL. VHS utilises an "M-loading" method, also known as M-lacing, where the tape is pulled out by two threading pillars and wrapped around over 180 degrees of the head drum in a shape similar to the letter M.
